The Rev Has Died
Sullivan appears to have died of natural causes, Huntington Beach police Lt. John Domingo said. Police were notified by firefighters who had responded to Sullivan's home about 1 p.m.
The Orange County Coroner's Office is investigating the death.
AVENGED SEVENFOLD's last release was the DVD/CD package, "Live in the LBC & Diamonds in the Rough", which came out in September 2008. The live DVD features the band's April 2008 hometown show at the Long Beach Arena headlining the Rockstar Taste of Chaos tour, while the CD contains previously unreleased b-sides that were recorded during the making of "Avenged Sevenfold", plus various covers, and other never-before-heard material. The DVD was directed by Core Entertainment's Rafa Alcantara, who also worked on the band's critically acclaimed 2007 road documentary "All Excess".
James Owen Sullivan, (February 10, 1981 - December 28, 2009) better known by his stage name, The Rev, or The Reverend Tholomew Plague was the drummer and back-up vocalist for the band Avenged Sevenfold, and lead vocalist in the avant-garde metal band Pinkly Smooth with fellow Avenged Sevenfold guitarist Synyster Gates. The Rev also played drums in the early millennium punk band, Vinnie 40oz and the dirt dobbers with Brantley 40 oz as lead guitarist. Sullivan resided in Huntington Beach, California and was married to Leana MacFadden aka Leana Silver until his death on December 28th, 2009 at the age of 28.
Details are still unfolding, but we have received word that Avenged Sevenfold drummer James Owen Sullivan, better known as "The Rev," was found dead in his Huntington Beach, California, home this morning. According to the OC Register, Sullivan's body was discovered by firefighters who were called to his house around 1 p.m. local time on Dec. 28. According to Huntington Beach police Lt. John Domingo commented that it appeared the 28-year-old drummer died of natural causes.
